Artificial Intelligence at CES 2018, Las Vegas

The CES (International Consumer Electronics Show) is the essential show for any technological company, from innovative start-ups to monsters such as Amazon or Google.

The goal here is to show off the latest inventions, viable and innovative prototypes (not yet commercialized) to the eyes of the world and hereby create visibility for customers and/or investors.

All future technologies and objects are there, even those straight out of sci-fi movies. It is by observing the innovations presented during CES, that we become aware of the technological progress of our system.

We realize with great excitement that technological evolution is going extremely fast. It’s an undeniable big change we are experiencing. The subject becomes societal and many people of power are present at the show (e.g. Dominique Anglade Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation). CES is the live demonstration of how new technology impacts our culture.

AI makes some of these new products even more viable and promising, even if there was a general sense of consciousness of the divergence of opinions. The evolution of habits and mentalities remains slower than the technological evolution.

However, the change is real, and it’s happening right now. Nowadays surprising products related to robotics and artificial intelligence enter our homes.

This year, we are seeing a lot of interest in voice assistants such as Google Home, Amazon Echo, etc. that can manage many of our home’s systems. Artificial Intelligence is used to create stunning and useful projects.

Here are three projects that caught our attention.

The automotive industry is very active in research and development. Many companies are looking to design the ideal, fully autonomous car. The BYTON company concept gathered a lot of interest this year: an almost autonomous and fully electric car. It is equipped with many technological tools such as facial and biometric recognition, a voice assistant, an internet service and many connected objects. The dashboard is a meter-long screen with gesture recognition. A concept competing with other well-known brands like BMW, Toyota, Ford or Mercedes. All of them demonstrating great qualities and an unanimous integration of artificial intelligence into their system.

Our rules of conduct will change faster than we think!

In the field of home entertainment, there are television sets of a very high definition adopting artificial intelligence. LG Electronics presents the C8: IA OLED DE model with its ThinQ program. The magic operates well when the television becomes intelligent. The user can communicate and ask many questions. For example, it is not necessary to stop the program to turn on Shazam on your smartphone, just ask your TV and you’ll know which song is playing. Artificial intelligence also improves visual quality by “recreating pixels”. Old video content can easily be refined and upscaled, such as the favorite cartoon of your childhood.

Moreover, in the technosphere, ideas are fusing around the delivery of goods, services and transport. For some years now, classical terrestrial routes have been set aside for the benefit of the sky. This trend emerged mainly due to the upcoming of drones. This year, the VOLOCOPTER was presented at CES: an autonomous taxidrone with voice recognition to know the destination. It has the capacity to make a journey of about thirty minutes at 50km / h. VOLOCOPTER is not just a concept, it will become reality in 2 or 3 years in Dubai!

The CES presents many other innovations without AI, such as electric wheels for bikes connectable to applications. In the field of health, the world’s smallest refrigerator has been introduced, with an autonomy of 36 hours. It allows for more reliable drug transportation for people with chronic conditions such as diabetes. In the social field, robots become the right arm of older people to entertain them, remind them of events and keep an eye on them.

All these intelligent innovations adapt themselves to the user through taste, intonations of voice or the way of driving. Enhanced innovations are for individual users, but change is also important and necessary within business systems. When you see world’s overall spending on electronics and technology, it’s certain that innovation is not about to stop. What can we expect next year?
